FC Utrecht won their 400th home game in the Eredivisie. In stadium Galgenwaard Willem Janssen liberated the Utrecht team with a header in the extra time against Cup winner Vitesse.

It took a long time and patience was tested. But right before the final whistle, in the last minute of the game, it happened. Captain Willem Janssen headed the ball into the goal. Who else than the captain gave his team and over 20,000 supporters a euphoric feeling. Janssen stood in the right spot and his header was good. FC Utrecht 1, Vitesse 0. A liberating goal. A goal worth three points.

Milestone (1)
It was also a goal that was good for a beautiful milestone. Janssen’s goal meant 1-0, and also the 400th home victory in the Eredivisie for FC Utrecht. A victory that was won in the dying seconds of the game, but overall deserved. Both FC Utrecht and Vitesse created chances, but FC Utrecht turned out more efficient.

Milestone (2)
The goal by the captain meant also another milestone. The 1400th goal in the Eredivisie. It is illustrative of the very good season of FC Utrecht that various milestones were reached. Almost every week trainer/coach Erik ten Hag’s team broke another club record.
