FC Utrecht took three points Saturday. In an atmospheric Stadium Galgenwaard trainer/coach Erik ten Hag’s team was in control over PEC Zwolle: 3-1.

It was great to see, ten minutes before the final whistle. FC Utrecht again showed a very nice attack and this time it resulted in a goal. The assist by Gyrano Kerk, the sophisticated step-over by Sébastien Haller and the final touch by substitute Nacer Barazite. 3-0 and the game was decided.

Van Polen lends a hand
Utrecht dominated the game, from beginning to end. Of course, there were occasional attacks by PEC Zwolle. But there were few and they did not have the same threat the FC Utrecht attacks did. However, many were ready to leave the stands and pick up their midgame snack with a 0-0 score on the board. But then, Haller sent Kerk towards Mickey van der Hart with a clever pass. And there was a goal; by defender Bram van Polen officially. An own goal. But more importantly: 1-0 on the scoreboard.

Klaiber finds Kerk
Five minutes after the break FC Utrecht struck again. The returned from the dressing room well and after a fine assist by midfielder Sean Klaiber Kerk showed his worth: 2-0. And although the game was not yet played with this score, it felt good, like FC Utrecht were going to win. And they deserved to, they were the better, sharper, brighter, more aggressive and more effective team this evening.

World champion watches her team win
Save the honour, that is what PEC Zwolle did do. Nicolai Brock-Madsen, who on this very day became a father, did score for trainer Ron Jans’ team (3-1) but that did not bring the excitement back into Stadium Galgenwaard. The stadium in which, prior to the game Utrecht UFC-world champion Germaine de Randamie was grandly honoured. In her presence FC Utrecht did what they wanted to do: work hard, play good football and win.

Next stop: FC Groningen away
Trainer/coach Ten Hag’s team can now, three points gained, focus on the next challenge. The away game against FC Groningen. The next home game for the Utrecht team is Sunday 5 March against ADO Den Haag.
