Combative Domstad team draw against Eredivisie leader PSV: 2-2

A combative FC Utrecht took a point against PSV on Sunday evening. At half time FC Utrecht led 2-0 over the Eredivisie leader from Eindhoven in Stadium Galgenwaard. It was deep into the second half that PSV equalized against head coach Dick Advocaat’s team: 2-2.

Win the ball, through ball, good rush and measured shot. The second FC Utrecht goal in rainy Stadium Galgenwaard was not one with many ball contacts. But that was the beauty of it. Sander van de Streek played in Gyrano Kerk and Kerk, back in the starting eleven, started running and shot with perfect timing. Goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet did try, but could not reach the ball, that fitted exactly in the space that was left towards the far corner: 2-0 FC Utrecht.
Not much possession, very efficient
And that with not even forty minutes of football in Utrecht. PSV did not know what happened to them at the Herculesplein. The Eindhoven team had possession, but was not very efficient on the ball. Especially not compared to FC Utrecht, who needed barely 30% possession to leave the Eredivisie leader shaking at the knees.
Dream start van de Streek
Van de Streek, who gave the assist for the 2-0, scored the first goal of the day. Nicolas Gavory took a corner  – last week FC Utrecht also scored from a corner in Zwolle against PEC. Van de Streek did more than just head the ball. He attacked it. No time to see PSV’s Daniel Schwaab, eyes on the ball only. And then boom, header, 1-0. A dream start for FC Utrecht, leading against PSV after only six minutes. PSV, the team that had faced a backlog only three times before in this season.
Banging on the wall
In the second half FC Utrecht pulled up a defensive wall, on which PSV started banging directly. The question was: is the wall strong enough and for how long? The first blow came after an hour into the game when Luuk de Jong scored 2-1.

A nervous half hour started for the nineteen thousand supporters in Stadium Galgenwaard, who saw FC Utrecht try everything to keep their lead. It was not enough, five minutes before the end of the game again Luuk de Jong made optimal use of the little space he got. From close to the goal he put the final score on the board: 2-2. A debatable moment, when Denzel Dumfries floored Simon Gustafson in the Eindhoven penalty area, did not change that. The claim for a Utrecht penalty was waved away, the draw a fact.
