Domstedelingen beat Heracles Almelo in a full Stadium Galgenwaard and rise in the Eredivisie ranking.
FC Utrecht were the winning team in the battle for the fourth place in the Eredivisie. Almost 22 thousand supporters saw head coach Dick Advocaat’s team beat direct opponent Heracles Almelo 3-1.
Most people barely got back on their seats because of the beautiful goal scored a minute before. The DJ just turned off ‘La Cucamarcha’ when he could press play again. Urby Emanuelson, note with his right leg, fired the ball in the upper corner. Goalkeeper Janis Blaswich did not have a chance, again. Twentieth minute, third goal, FC Utrecht led 3-0. Game, set, match.
To be framed
Only a minute earlier Gyrano Kerk scored a goal to be framed. Stadium Galgenwaard held their breath when the fast striker received the ball from Sander van de Streek. Kerk put aside his direct guard Bart van Hintum and fired the ball in the goal. Rumour has it Blaswich did not even see the ball, he could only hear it pass.
FC Utrecht swing
It was that phase of the game in which FC Utrecht gave Heracles Almelo the final blow. Although Maximilian Rossmann did score for Heracles in the second half (3-1) the three points for FC Utrecht and with that a win in the battle for the fourth place against the direct opponent from Overijssel were never in danger after that blistering start in Stadium Galgenwaard.
Gustafson keeps his calm
Simon Gustafson launched the Utrecht dream start. The Swede could take a penalty after a foul on Timo Letschert in the penalty area. Gustafson kept his calm and scored.
Advocaat equals record Loffeld
FC Utrecht scored a lot the previous weeks. The 3-1 win over Heracles Almelo followed a 3-3 in Kralingen against Excelsior and a 5-0 win over De Graafschap in Stadium Galgenwaard. It was for the first time since 2007 that FC Utrecht scored at least three goals in three successive Eredivisie games. Head coach Dick Advocaat is the second trainer in club history to win five Eredivisie home games in a row. The only one before him was Cees Loffeld in 1989.
