A little short

11 november 2018

FC Utrecht’s unbeaten run came to an end in the GelreDome. The Domstad team was beaten 2-1 by Vitesse.

FC Utrecht’s winning streak came to an end in Arnhem. In a rainy GelreDome, head coach Dick Advocaat’s team was beaten 2-1 by Vitesse. In the final stage of the game the Utrecht team was close to an equaliser, but did not manage to score.

Yes, there was time to cheer. A second or two. A small gesture towards the visitors stand with 385 FC Utrecht supporters. But Cyriel Dessers did not allow himself and the team much longer to dwell on his goal. The Belgium, on the pitch for a little more than ten minutes, got a goal back (2-1). No time to party, but focus on the next steps. A goal for Utrecht: check. Now on to the next step: the equaliser.

Shot by Kerk parried by Eduardo
The Utrecht team were close to that equaliser a couple of times in Arnhem, where the rain and wind made it chilly. How about Gyrano Kerk? The attacker slalomed his way into the penalty area of Vitesse and finished his good rush with a shot. A good shot, fast and placed. You could almost see the ball go into the goal, but then there was a Portuguese Brazilian in the way. Vitesse goalkeeper Eduardo cleared with the tips of his fingers.

Not that second check
The Eduardo fan club cannot count on many new members from the Utrecht area in the coming weeks. A few minutes after he cleared the shot by Kerk in a great way, he also parried a Dessers’ header with a spectacular save. The 36 year old Portuguese international, on loan from Chelsea, prevented FC Utrecht from getting that next check on their action list.

Linssen and Ødegaard shoot with sharp
FC Utrecht needed two goals to equalise in Gelderland, because of the two goals they let in in the second half. With a placed shot, Bryan Linssen scored the 1-0 and Ødegaard, the young Norwegian Real Madrid star, provided for the 2-0 with a free kick. From that moment on the race against the clock started for FC Utrecht.

Jensen important
The fact that the race against the clock lasted until the final second of the game, was also due to David Jensen. Because, when the focus of FC Utrecht was on scoring the second goal, the Dane also guarded a goal and now and then there was a lot of activity there. With good saves and catlike reflexes he kept FC Utrecht in the game. Because his colleague Eduardo on the other end of the pitch did the same, Jensen’s saves did not lead to a result. It remained 2-1 and FC Utrecht went back to the Domstad empty handed.

International break, then De Graafschap at home
Next weekend there will be no Eredivise games due to the international break. The week after that FC Utrecht play at home against De Graafschap on Sunday November 25. Tickets for this game are already on sale.
