FC Utrecht could not bring any points home from their visit to De Kuip. The team, for the first time under head coach Dick Advocaat, was beaten 1-0 by Feyenoord in the pouring rain. Routinier Robin van Persie scored the only goal at the end of the game.

Chances. FC Utrecht created them in De Kuip. The Domstad team regularly managed to move towards Justin Bijlow’s goal, especially after half time. There even were some shots on goal. A good rotary shot by Simon Gufstafson and a fireball by Joris van Overeem, although that one was nipped in the bud.

Soaking wet Kuip
Also noted: a header by Oussama Tannane, wide. A firing shot by Sean Klaiber, wide. A seething free kick by Tannane, over. FC Utrecht did not take advantage of the poor play of the Rotterdam team in the soaking wet Kuip.

Old hand Van Persie decides the game
But it was the Feyenoord team that walked lap of honour with a big smile on their faces. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team owed that to captain Robin van Persie. He missed a couple of opportunities earlier in the game, but three minutes before the end of the game he headed the ball into the far corner: 1-0.

Fresh blood
There was not much time left for FC Utrecht to do something back. Substitutes Nick Venema and Lukas Görtler did bring fresh blood and renewed spirit, but they too did not manage to beat the Rotterdam defence. FC Utrecht went home empty handed.

Thursday Cup game
The next mission for Advocaat’s team: a cup game against MVV Maastricht in the first round of the TOTO KNVB Cup. This game is on Thursday in Stadium Galgenwaard and starts at 19.45. Tickets are already for sale.

FC Groningen away
After the Cup game, there will be an Eredivisie game as well this week. On Sunday September 30th at 14.30 FC Utrecht will play an away game against FC Groningen. For this game also the tickets are already for sale.
